In June 2006 Directflight was awarded a PSO contract for the provision of an inter island scheduled air service in the Shetland Islands. Operated on behalf of the Shetland Island Council and based at Tingwall airport near Lerwick, Directflight operates 2 Britten Norman Islander Aircraft to the islands of Foula, Out Skerries, Papa Stour and Fair Isle.

This unique aircraft is ideally suited to operate in this challenging environment and provides a vital link to the island communities.  In addition, this inter island service is popular with the increasing number of tourists who visit the islands each year to the spectacular scenery, birdlife, flora, fauna, music and culture that is unique to this northern extremity of the United Kingdom.
